Halloween 2010

Time has flown by and this post is way late, but we had a lot of fun this year getting ready for Halloween and I didn't want to forget..... So here it is starting with our adventure to Ogden Nature Center Where we ran into Woody!Saw a pirate with some awesome wheels! Arrrrg!
Went Crawling Through a giant spiders web

Woody got his fortune read

we made a spider hat which Katelyn liked wearing more than her pirate hat

Devin had his School Carnival where they played lots of games and made some crafts
Katelyn wanted to be a big kid and do everything that she saw Devin and his friends do.

One of the games they played was musical chairs. Instead of taking a chair away every time the music stopped they had put pictures of a ghost, pumpkin, witch, cat etc. on each chair and the kid that was sitting in the chair with the pic they called got a prize. So everyone was a winner! Devin cracked me up because every time the music stopped he managed to sit in the same seat!

The night before Halloween the kids and I made pumpkin chocolate chip cookies and frosted them to look like spider webs.

Katelyn Loved the cookies!

This was Katelyn's first year carving pumpkins. Last year she was too little and probably sleeping. So as you can see she was very excited!

Both were eager to dig in and only a little grossed out

For Katelyn's pumpkin I did a silly face, She loved taking off the lid and putting it back on. At times she even got frustrated if she couldn't get it to line up right so Devin would help her.

she was so proud of herself when she could line it up right

Devin wanted an alien pumpkin. He was so mad when Katelyn riped the face off! I fixed it by holding it together with toothpicks. See you can't even tell! phew!!!

We went trick or treating around My Mom and Dads and ate some delicious chili
Isn't Katelyn the cutest pirate?

We had so much fun spending time with our Family

Katelyn loves my sisters dog tilly!

Sunny Layed an egg!

Our chickens are finally consistently Laying eggs! We started getting One egg every two to three days about the end of September and recently have been getting two to three eggs every day to every other day until Today!!!!!.....
This is sunny our Easter egg layer and the producer of the light pastel green egg shown bellow (looks more green in person) All of our chickens we knew would lay brown eggs except for sunny. Easter Egg Layers can lay either green, pink, blue, and sometimes white (thus the name) You never know what color egg they're going to lay until they do and then it will always be that color. So I was greatly anticipating the day her egg would arrive hoping that it would be colored. We were so excited about our discovery and Devin announced right away " Sunny lay ed an egg!" Before I took this pic he said to Sunny "Good girl Sunny you lay ed an egg!"
We were also surprised to find six eggs! Finally it looks like our chickens will be more than just pets who destroy my garden, poop on the deck and hawler down at me when they want me to let them out. Oh and it's always fun trying to get them out of the trees when they need to go home for the night! That was until I discovered how much they love chicken scratch hee hee!

So I thought I would share about how we or I should say Devin collects the eggs.
First I have to open the roof over the nests, then Devin and I look for and count the eggs then he grabs them

Next he examines and compares the eggs

Today since we had six eggs I told him to run down and get us an egg carton (knowing that we had an empty one on the table) When he returned he had his backpack and had brought the egg carton from the refrigerator! which already had four eggs in it (not all eggs shown in this pic) He placed the new eggs in it.

Then loaded it into his backpack

Finally we head down to put the eggs away

Then go back up to give the chickens some more food. Oh and we finally named all nine chickens. They are Sunny, Ruby, Furbie aka cluck-cluck, Polly, Susie, Sally, Grace aka Gracie, Gretchen, and Rose.
Our tenth chicken was a rooster renamed Nico, he is greatly missed by Devin and I. Rest in peace Nico. I'll try to post more pics soon of these gals and some baby pics.

I think we probably have enjoyed two dozen (maybe more I should have kept track) eggs so far! Thank you gals for the eggs they are Delicious!

Havin' fun at Black Island Farm

Today was Devin's first preschool field trip and we had so much fun!Uh oh! I think I might be raising both a cowboy and a cowgirl, a couple of weeks ago we were at IFA getting chicken food and Devin insisted that Katelyn needed some boots too! I have to admit they were too cute to pass up. She loves them and will grab them (and pass on others) when she wants to go outside or if we are going somewhere.
Katelyn loved walking around everywhere and protested loudly when she had go in her stroller or if I tried to hold her. She is getting a lot more independent now that she is walking and running. ( she'll come running back to me if anyone talks to her and sometimes even smiles at her)

We got to take a ride in an open trailer pulled by a tractor. ( Devin was in heaven!) It then made a stop at the pumpkin patch where all the kids got to pick out a pumpkin. Here Devin is raising his hand so that the guy would come cut his off the vine.

Devin's perfect little pumpkin!
I have to admit he definitely wasn't picky he almost picked the first pumpkin that we came to so I convinced him to go over to a spot that had at least 5 or 6 pumpkins to choose from.

For some reason he didn't want me to take his pic with his pumpkin so I quickly took this one. (notice the scuzzy!?) At least he let Ms. Hill get a good pic of him and his pumpkin!

Riding on the trailer.
We also were educated about the farm and I even learned some interesting things about how carrots grow the best in sandy soil the sandier the better. That's how they grow straight, when they have smaller sprouts growing from a larger carrot that means a bug ate some of the carrot when it was first starting to grow ( still edible )

Devin Loved all the slides! I even took Katelyn down on a few she loved it but thought she should be able to climb up herself!

Ridin' the Bull!

Devin our future rodeo star! He kept doing different tricks on this horse and no he never fell off just made me hold my breath!

We saw lots of animals!
Devin was very sweet with Katelyn and made sure that she didn't get her fingers bit and kept telling her "be careful don't let them bite your fingers!"

Fed some goats

Pumped water

Even Katelyn gave it a try

My Favorite animal of the day was this llama it had a funny personality! Check out the one laying down too! they cracked me up. It loved the grass we fed to it but when another family came it was very picky and wouldn't eat their grass!

Say Cheese!!!!!!

Smoothie Anyone!?

Early Thursday morning little Devin snuck into our room, crawled into our bed, slept till the sun came peaking Through our window and then rolled over looked at me and said " Is today Sunday?" To which I replied "No Dev today is Thursday" He then said "oh I wanted pancakes for Breakfast." I was about to break our Sunday tradition by having pancakes early when he suddenly said " can we make foothies?" (meaning smoothies) So of coarse I said yes and Devin helped! (he just loves helping in the kitchen and I love his help!)

Got Smoothie!

This was Katelyn's first time drinking a smoothie from a cup (without a lid)

I just loved their smoothie staches!

Fruit smoothies, a favorite in our home! Although Devin said they were "sooo cold!" and soon after needed a sweater ( if only I could get him to keep his jammies on at night!)

This is how we make our smoothies....
*1 1/2 cups frozen fruit (mixed berries is what we used this day)
*1 cup plain or vanilla yogurt
*1/2- 1 whole banana
*1/2- 1 cup orange juice (depends on how well your blender mixes or how thick to runny you like your smoothies)
Put all ingredients in a blender, mix to the consistency you wish, pour into cups, and enjoy!
(sometimes we add a scoop of protein powder, almond butter or peanut butter for some extra protein)

Devin's first day of pre-school & his best friend Nicho!

Today was Devin's official first day of Pre-school, we all went on Tuesday to meet his teacher and decorate his school bag. Today was his first day without me! I think I had a harder time with the realization then he did. He was so cute when we got to his class he said " hi Ms. Hill" I helped him find his name and put it on his cubby hole then he said " bye Mommy I love you" and went and sat in his seat. (it's like he grew up over night) Later when I picked him up we talked about what things he did at school this is what he said " It was fun we painted, played outside, had story time and Ms. Hill played the piano" I asked him if there was any boys in his class to this he replied "yes, Austin the teacher kept saying his name and he wasn't listening, but I was a good boy I got a sticker" He also said that he liked snack time they ate cookies.
Devin I am so proud of you hope that you continue to enjoy your class, learning new things and being the sweet boy that you are we love you so much.

Devin's first day and his bag that he decorated

And after school he had fun playing with Nicho our rooster! His new fav chicken being that he is the easiest to catch!

Katelyn enjoys Nicho too!

Devin thought that I should of pushed him and Nicho around.

So since I wouldn't, he decided he would push Nicho around.
Do you think Nicho had fun?
Sorry, I still need to introduce the chickens hopefully in the next post :)
